| Bronze medal for Devon on waste
With Christmas on the horizon, there are plenty of ways everyone can help to make the festivities greener and their bins a little lighter. "Composting kitchen waste will give your garden a treat in the New Year, whilst buying recycled wrapping paper, presents and cards can help to conserve precious resources. "Our local recycling centres can help you recycle everything from your Christmas empties to the old tree, so let's make it a very merry green Christmas!" More information about how to reduce waste can be found by clicking on the link below. 11:36am Monday 3rd December 2007 .

As some of you already know, I am an Ohio State Buckeye fan who resides in the Heart of Texas among some of the most die hard and passionate fans in this country...Texas Longhorn fans! The College football fan base in general is the most interesting group of sports fans to observe. In my opinion they are more colorful and crazed than any Professional Football, Baseball, Basketball, or Hockey fan base and the Texas Longhorn fan is indeed an interesting breed. The University of Texas is located in the great city of Austin. One of the coolest cities in the United States. Known for it's hospitable atmosphere and great night life. It has been called the "Live Music Capitol of the World" and I've have found that to be true. But on Saturdays in the fall it's all about the Longhorns. These fans truly bleed burnt orange.
Christian Bale enters the jungle for Rescue Dawn
BATMAN star Christian Bale wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty filming his latest movie in the depths of the Thailand jungle. Bale submerged himself in the culture for the Vietnam War film Rescue Dawn, even developing a taste for the cuisine -- fried insects. "They sell a lot of bugs you can eat, fried bugs and things, which I really took to and enjoyed eating,'' he says, adding grasshoppers were his favourite. "It really just tasted like a very crispy french fry. I would head off to the markets at night time and I wouldn't know what I was eating half the time.'' While many of his Hollywood counterparts would demand five-star treatment, Bale expected to sleep in a tent or hammock with a mosquito net. The accommodation wasn't that basic, but Bale wouldn't have minded. "Walking around barefoot all the time on the mud and the stones, getting these nice hard feet, getting accustomed to being in the jungle, having that become your home really helped,'' the 33-year-old says.
Soufflés and snogging in Val d'Isère
It is Saturday, the busiest day of the week, when one group of guests leaves and the next arrives. Ali and Luke are hard at it, and put me straight to work. They want mini raspberry soufflés. Well, why not? Like Luke, I did a cooking course at the start of my gap year. Unlike Luke's, my gap year was more than a decade ago. But the boys talk me through it: whip up cream and sugar, squash some raspberries and fold it together. Easy. Next, I set the table for dinner, and then have a nose around the chalet - six stylish rooms, and a large open-plan kitchen/dining room (no swearing in the kitchen, thank you very much). The guests are surprised to see me, a new addition to the chalet team. "Is this a girlfriend?" the husband booms, winking at the boys. Actually, no.
Caught in tangled Web
He told Callender he was a widower and was just getting back into dating. She told him she was an independent writer who had worked mostly in theater but that she was trying to break into writing for films and television. Callender said Anderson told her he was in a similar business and that he could help her get established. "We agreed that it would be a business relationship, but that if we hit it off that neither of us was opposed to getting to know each other more personally," she said. "When I saw him at the airport and he looked like his picture, I relaxed. I let my guard down. I didn't see that there was any dishonesty going on." However, she said, it didn't take long for her to figure out there was a problem. As soon as they entered his residence, a converted carriage house at 610 N.
Warning over new homes carbon plan
The housing industry needs to rethink the whole construction process if the Government is to meet its target for all new homes to be zero-carbon by 2016, a report has said. According to the National Trust, a study of a housing development on Trust land near Altrincham, Cheshire, showed large scale building could deliver high environmental standards on water and energy consumption. But the project also revealed there were currently a number of obstacles, ranging from gaps between predicted energy conservation in the design and actual performance to a lack of labour and environmentally sustainable products in the UK. The National Trust said a strong sense of direction from the Government and wholehearted support from the construction industry was "vital" if the 2016 zero-carbon targets were to be met.

Black gold enriches cookies
For something considered a byproduct, molasses has certainly made a tasty impression on foods we know and love. Gingerbread, muffins, licorice, baked beans and barbecue sauce are just a handful of the creations made richer by what I like to call the "black gold" of the culinary world. When sugar cane (and sometimes beets) are refined to make sugar, the syrupy juice extracted is placed in a machine where centrifugal force is used to remove the sugar crystals, from which sugar is made. The liquid that remains after this process is called molasses. The syrupy juice is boiled three times, and when you go to the grocery store you will find three types of molasses for sale that reflect that. .
