| How the Once-Mighty Knicks Have Fallen
Making the playoffs (as an 8th seed in a weak East) is VERY faint praise. Improving the roster from the Layden Era is VERY faint praise. Conditionally praising this column after months of endless vitriol (unfounded, unsubstantiated, unmoving) is faint praise. Asking our players to aspire to the days when Knicks fought over screens to deny their man the open look is damning them with faint praise. It's still not enough to simply do that - that's called professionalism, doing your job - something almost no one does on a regular basis on this roster. No - the key difference is that the old-time players LIKED doing that, they DEMANDED the opportunity to get a chance to shut their men down because that purity of drive & emotion was the essence of spirit necessary to play in the MECCA.
Me and my travels
I don't see stuff when I'm in London because I'm so busy, so it seems crazy to go away and then see art or go to the theatre. I NEVER TRAVEL WITHOUT... DVDs and a laptop to play them. If you're travelling first-class life is easy, but even if you're not, the day flies by if you've got the right entertainment. I particularly enjoy American TV shows such as Deadwood, The Shield and The Wire MY TOP TRAVEL TIP IS... Take melatonin to combat jet lag. It really works. You can get it from any health food store, and as I travel to Los Angeles and Las Vegas quite often I'll take melatonin when I get back before going to bed. WHEN I'M TRAVELLING I ALWAYS MISS... Not much now, thanks to the joys of Sky Plus. Of course home is home and there's nothing like your own bed, but I really enjoy spending time on the road in Britain, whether it's in Brighton, Newcastle, Edinburgh or wherever.
Finding good-tasting fiber to put in your diet is easy
If you don't already know it, February is Heart Health Month. My e-mail gets clogged arteries just trying to keep up with the information sent to me about healthy eating, so cleaning out the file last week, I saved some advice from Tanya Zuckerbrot, a registered dietician, nutritionist and the creator of The F-Factor Diet, a nutritional program that incorporates more fiber into your diet as the source of permanent weight loss. We probably don't spend enough time considering fiber in our diets. Yet, eating more is one of the major changes you can make to improve cholesterol. Fiber binds with cholesterol in the GI tract and ushers it out of the body before it reaches the bloodstream, resulting in decreased cholesterol. Here are some easily available and tasty sources of fiber to work into your diet for February Heart Health Month: Artichoke -- An entire artichoke has 6 grams of fiber and only 60 calories.
Holy Cow! Winemaking with style, humor
Importer Jorge OrdoƱez represents a full range of Spanish wines, from low end to high. The red wines in particular hold largely to a certain style — very appealing to many consumers — that emphasizes flavors of fruit jam, licorice and tobacco. In the pricier bottles it can lead to wines that are a bit over the top, but this $8, old vine garnacha (grenache) offers bright cranberry and raspberry fruit, along with some of the usual tobacco/licorice notes. There is also a $15 Bodegas Ateca bottling with similar, but more concentrated, flavors. (Distributed by Elliott Bay). .

Food by the Book: Scholar teaches good lessons
There is one small volume on my bookshelves which holds a magnificent store of wisdom and perspective. "Three Negro Classics" (1965) contains the now historic works of Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, and James Weldon Johnson, with a forward by Oklahoma native John Hope Franklin. .
Yahoo7 returns to roots
In something of a back-to-the-future about-face, Mr Lund yesterday told Media that rather than cutting staff they would be redeployed to work on email, the search function and a new aggregated news site. "The strategy is simple. We want to make Yahoo7 the first stop for Australians going online," he said. "We can never be everything for everyone but we can certainly be the place where they start. If we're serious about winning then we've got to win in front page, mail, news and search." Yahoo7 is beefing up its search team and is eyeing a January relaunch of the service in an effort to regain ground from Google, which now has more than 85per cent of the Australian market. "Google has a bigger market share in Australia than anywhere else in the world," Mr Lund said. "I'll be throwing the kitchen sink at fixing search.
Brown Palace needs wake up call
I've been on weekend nights, weeknights, even busy stock show nights when, after being advised by the reservation agent that the room was booked solid, we found a restaurant all but devoid of diners. (Later we told our waiter that it had been tough to get a table. He laughed out loud.) I could, but won't, recite the floor- length rap sheet of service problems that have plagued my recent experiences. But I will mention a few. A few weeks ago, after waiting more than 20 minutes for menus, my dining companion had a question for our server, which he entertained while rapping his fingers impatiently on the table. .
Cooking tool makes it easy to poach an egg
The Poachpod from Fusionbrands is a flexible cooking tool for poaching eggs, baking and molding. The cooking tool floats in boiling water; simply crack an egg into the Poachpod and it will suspend the egg while it poaches it. When the egg has finished cooking, simply flip the nonstick Poachpod inside out and the egg will be released. .
